“Look at him he’s playing that stupid game of his again. Guy’s got no social life. Yeah what a complete waste of his time, He should do something worthwhile.”

The above are a few sort of  mandatory lines you need to listen from people to be classified as a ”Gamer”, and in our college, a Dota player at least. Not one day goes by where people refrain from pointing you out in the crowd.

People look at a person who plays 'Dota' and capture his/her image in their minds waiting for the right opportunist moment to see them again, so they can say with a stupid smile or laughter stating “Dotaaaaa”(this happens in our college). Now this is the mindset people have in their minds for us-“oh, he’s worthless”. It worries me to see such a sorry state of people’s minds. Gamers aren’t social outcasts, why treat us likewise? Today the gaming industry is soaring to new heights. Games like Dota are at the pinnacle of Big money and competition worldwide. Teams represent nations in various online and LAN tournaments. To provide an insight on a collective hive mind of gamers would be impossible, for it is filled with vast entities of ideas and imaginations mixed with perhaps a dash of fantasy. An enjoyable life probably. I represent the gamers, I am one of them. I have been declared by people as an idiot who wastes his time. Yes, I am an idiot who loves doing what his heart wants. Everyone follows their dreams, things they are comfortable at. Things they enjoy the most. So why not gamers? Why are we looked upon with a “grim future” stare.

But then comes a point where you stop questioning people, you know what they’re going to ask you, you know what they’re going to say. You get used to it. You get past the irritation and you’re at peace with them, they however don’t stop bugging you..  There are some of us who aren’t very good at studies. Yup that’s for sure (myself being an example). But if I went about statistics gamers have better cognitive,
logical and reasoning skills than everyday average studious children (Legit scientific facts). And most of the companies today want more skills than bookish knowledge.

It isn’t like we aren’t aware of our duties. Forget duties, we are the most diligent people you’ll ever find. Why? Because if we take a task at hand we take it like a challenge and work hard to come up aces. You can bet on this fact.

We’re the most interesting and emotional beings after poets, we connect with game characters like they were real people. We can relate much better to people and their emotions this way. Try it if you will. A gamer will come up with a solution to someone’s problems 20 % faster.

I’m not asking anyone to join us. I’m not asking anyone to hate us or love us in an instant. And I don’t want to sound the least bit arrogant.

I’m just asking you to think better of us than just robots.

We love going out. We love to party. We listen to a lot of songs. We read books. We’re your everyday awesome I feel alive youth. We have an interesting life. Just try for once to look at things from our perspective. You want to give us an advice. Give it to us. Just don’t make it sound like an order.

Just be a little patient with us, I’m sure we can surprise you. We the Dota players, we the gamers, we the people.
